It’s not laziness. It’s neurobiology.
Specialist, NICE-compliant ADHD assessments for adults. We combine clinical expertise with QbTest technology to validate your struggles and unlock your true potential.
The “Why Now?”
The explanation you’ve been waiting for.
Many adults with ADHD have spent decades believing they are “disorganised,” “unmotivated,” or “just need to try harder.” You might be high-functioning in your career but burning out behind the scenes to keep up.
At AYC, we understand that Adult ADHD often looks like chronic procrastination, time-blindness, emotional dysregulation, or a racing mind that never sleeps.
Our assessment provides the clinical context to reframe these challenges—shifting the narrative from “character flaw” to “neurodivergent difference.”
Why We Use Technology
Objective Proof, Not Just Opinion.
Many adults worry they are “making it up” or just “need to focus better.” That is why we use the QbTest, an FDA-cleared, objective assessment tool..
How it works
You perform a 15-20 minute computer task at our Warrington centre while an infrared camera tracks your movement and attention.
The Data
It measures your attention span, impulse control, and motor activity down to the millimetre.
The Result
We generate a visual graph comparing your brain’s performance against a control group of adults your age and gender. It provides the concrete data you need to silence the doubt.
The Assessment Pathway
A comprehensive clinical investigation.
We do not offer 20-minute “tick-box” diagnoses. Our pathway follows NICE Guideline NG87.
Clinical Interview (DIVA-5)
Gold-standard framework to explore your symptoms both now and in childhood (a requirement for diagnosis).
The QbTest
Objective “biomarker” data to support the clinical interview and rule out other causes.
Functional Assessment
Chartered Psychologists assess functional impairment: How is this affecting your job, relationships, and mental health?
Informant Data
Where possible, we gather information from someone who knows you well (partner, parent, friend) for a second perspective.
Diagnosis & Report
A detailed clinical report. This document is your “passport” to accessing support under the Equality Act.
Why get diagnosed as an adult?
The practical benefits.
A diagnosis is more than just validation; it is a tool for change.
Workplace Protection
Equality Act 2010
ADHD is a recognised disability. Your report allows you to request Reasonable Adjustments (like flexible hours, quiet desks, or assistive software).
Access to Medication
NHS or Private
Our robust reports are accepted by Psychiatrists (private or NHS shared-care) should you wish to explore medication as a treatment.
Self-Compassion
Mental Health
Understanding your “Executive Dysfunction” allows you to stop fighting your brain and start working with it, reducing anxiety and shame.
The AYC Difference
Why choose us over an online app?
Psychologists, not just prescribers. Many online clinics focus solely on selling medication. We focus on the whole person. We can help you understand the psychological impact of living undiagnosed, including anxiety and self-esteem issues.
Face-to-Face Option. While we offer remote interviews, the QbTest is conducted in our Warrington centre, providing a level of clinical oversight that remote-only apps cannot match.
Common Questions
Yes. Many smart adults “masked” their ADHD in school by working twice as hard or relying on high intelligence to compensate. This often leads to burnout in adulthood once life demands increase.
AYC is a Psychology-led service, so we do not prescribe directly. However, our diagnosis is the necessary first step. We can refer you to trusted Psychiatrists for medication titration if needed.
We follow NICE guidelines strictly. While the NHS has its own acceptance criteria (Shared Care Agreements), our reports are written to the highest clinical standard to maximise the chance of acceptance.
